A genetically modified organism (GMO) or genetically engineered organism (GEO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. These techniques are generally known as recombinant DNA technology. With recombinant DNA technology, DNA molecules from different sources are combined in vitro into one molecule to create a new gene. This DNA is then transferred into an organism and causes the expression of modified or novel traits.

Genetically modified (GM) foods are foods produced from GMO that have had their DNA altered through genetic engineering. GM foods were first put on the market in the early 1990s. The most common modified foods are derived from plants: soybean, corn, canola cotton seed oil and wheat.

Disease and Mortality

While life expectancy rose from 47 years to 76 years in the last 100 years more and more people are getting cancer and other diseases. How can we live longer, if more and more of us are sick each year?

Part this anomaly has to do with how statistics can be misinterpreted. For one thing, the infant mortality fell from 165 per 100 births in 1900 to only 7 deaths per 1000 births in 2000. This skews life expectancy by almost 10 years. But what about the other 29 years won?

Although more and more people are getting sick, more than 53% of all cancer deaths in the United States were in connection with four sites: lung, colon, prostate (predominantly male) sex organs and breast (female). And from 1990 to 1998, death rates increase of 1.7% per year for men and 2.9% per year among women. So, not only more people ill, but more people die of cancer than ever before before.

Why there are more cases of cancer and higher mortality rates? Many would say that it has to do with the food we eat, here in the U.S., particularly the genetically modified seeds used to grow our fruit and vegetables, and the hormones and anti-biotic additives revenue to increase size and reduce the deaths in animals.

Others would say it has to do with a person's karma, and it is something in their mental, emotional and spiritual body has caused this outbreak of the disease. Regardless of your own opinions more and more people are looking for alternative food sources such as organic reduce their risk of a disease, whether fatal or simply debilitating.

I was diagnosed with testicular cancer in September 2006, and as a 45-year-old, was the Considered too old to this type of cancer. But it was the same type of cancer as Lance Armstrong, making it far too easily beaten. What I have learned about cancer, since the first diagnosis is frightening.

I had the first operation to remove the primary source of cancer, and then found out that he is in my lymph nodes. Testicular cancer is well studied and it is a well-known chemotherapy regime that works in 98% of all cases. It is a grueling therapy (most people get chemo-therapy once a week or every two or three weeks, this is a daily therapy), and not one but three different chemo drugs, not to mention the other 3 -- 5 drugs to alleviate effects.

Alas the page after the chemotherapy, my lymph nodes still showed signs of cancer, so that the surgery again, this time it was major, with an 8-day stay in hospital, with the side effect (in my case) get lymphoedema in the left leg. I am tomorrow to another CAT scan to see if everything is in order inside me.

So, cancer has grown from a word one hears about in connection with death and disease, to a personal attack on my body. If you or someone you love has cancer or any other evil disease, we are here to help. Knowing that new remedies are to be discovered, every day, and that there is hope for you and your loved ones ones.
